10-88 Nation! What A Powerful interview with Mike! A former police officer who served ten years in the very busy and active police department of West Valley City! Mike was a patrolman, he served as an officer on the Community Oriented Policing Unit and a detective in the investigation division. Mike also served several years in S.W.A.T. as a secondary assignment.
His story identifies the horrific realism of police work and the trauma these calls for service can bring to our men and women. Thousands of officers across this nation are exposed to traumatic events over and over throughout their careers. These events impact everyone differently. Mike won the battle and has made amazing progress for the better over the years. Kudos to Mike for sharing his stories and being open with all of us! Not an easy thing to do. 1088podcast #33/11/2019 10-88 Nation! This week a close longtime friend to me, Dan Hamilton joins us on the podcast. A former cop who was involved in a shooting. Matter of fact, his shooting was my first officer involved shooting investigation as a member of the major crimes unit! I’m very thankful Dan was able to discuss this incident with us.
These critical incidents are so challenging to talk about and for an officer to share their experience with us is always and amazing blessing! This critical incident took place in July of 2008. A very busy populated area of the city in a strip mall. The bad guy entered a jewelry store armed with a handgun. He committed a robbery then exited the store with a hostage. It was then, he was met by some of the finest officers of the agency. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/1088podcast/id1454411229?mt=2&uo=4 https://anchor.fm/ellis-maxwell Episode 2 of 10-88 Podcast2/28/2019 I’m so excited to announce, episode 2 will be published Monday morning (3/4/19), for y’all to listen too on your Monday commute! Here’s the back story! The guest retired in 1993. He served 26 years for a municipal police department in Northern Utah. He was a huge influence on me becoming a police officer. He probably kicked my ass, as many times as my ol man during my childhood years, well prob not as much 😊.
We’re going to discuss a shooting incident that he was involved in, in the late 1970’s. Super crazy incident! I can’t share anymore, I don’t want to ruin it! This exceptional cop is truly what you’d call one of the old timers. You went to work did what you had to do. When you arrived home everything you did was left in the police car! He’s about as tough of a cop as you can imagine, over six feet tall, built like a shit brick house. You wouldn’t want to cross paths with him back in the day on the streets if you were a criminal! However, he was genuine, pleasant, fair, and just so loveable inside! I didn’t discover the loveable side until probably this last decade. I was as scared of him, as I was of my own ol man! But I respected him. He’s been a huge inspiration though my career. He chooses to remain anonymous and the agency he worked for. If you recognize his voice or know who it is; please respect this and don’t identify him or the agency in any comment threads. But, feel free to thank him for his services on any of my pages (referencing, ep2) after listening. He has surpassed all the stigma that’s ever been brought onto police officers; such as dying shortly after retirement. He’s been retired for 26 years! Same amount of years that he served. And, his health is exceptional. He’s still married to the wife that said “I do” over a half a century ago! And, like cops, he was hesitant in doing this podcast, LMAO; however, due to my remarkable negotiation skills, I get shit done! Huge THANK-YOU to him and all of YOU!! I’m just the facilitator. Keep-on-Keepin-on! Thank-you for listening and sharing my links and be safe! 10-88 Podcast2/26/2019 Check out this awesome podcast! I uploaded the first episode on 2/25/19.
