The Dangers of Leaving an Abusive Relationship

Leaving a toxic and abusive relationship is often the most dangerous period for victims. Time and time again, society has witnessed this tragic reality through news stories, documentaries, movies, and, heartbreakingly, when we mourn the loss of loved ones and sometimes hope for the recovery of their remains.

Our Commitment to Survivors

Personal Motivation and Lessons Learned

The drive to assist those seeking to escape stems from deeply personal experiences and investigations. Reading the journal entries of Susan M. Cox (Powell) provided insight into the struggles she faced within her abusive relationship, a case that was investigated for over three years. Additionally, the loss of a friend and her son, who were brutally murdered by an estranged boyfriend unwilling to accept the end of their relationship, underscores the grave risks victims face.

Another impactful case was that of Lori K Soares (Hacking). Countless hours were spent, often in severe weather conditions, alongside over a dozen officers, searching a landfill for Lori after her tragic death at the hands of her husband. Her fate was sealed after she uncovered a web of deceit in their relationship. Ironically, both Lori and Susan worked at the same financial institution and were nearly the same age. In an unsettling twist, Susan’s husband, referenced Lori’s husband’s mistakes during the murder a year prior to Susan becoming missing. Lori’s body was recovered. However, Susan remains missing.

There are many more examples that have left a profound impact, but these cases stand out as the most significant. It is crucial that we learn from those who have given the ulitmate sacrafice to intimate partner violence and strive to prevent such tragedies in the future.
